Aspects of Astronomical Science in Ancient Egyptian Civilization

Astronomy, among the natural sciences, is motivating, interdisciplinary and exerts an undeniable fascination on people. No other area of knowledge has been, since Antiquity, so close to the development of human thought. Described as the oldest of sciences, this article deals with some aspects of Astronomy developed in ancient Egypt, approaching characteristics of a people who had a strong tendency towards the practical aspect, different from the philosophical reflection practiced in Greek civilization. We will discuss how the need to observe the sky was important in structuring an efficient and organized administration, fundamental not only for agriculture and calendars, but also for geographically orienting the incredible pyramid constructions that defy time. This text aims to contribute to the study in the field of the History of Astronomy in ancient civilizations, supporting activities in undergraduate and graduate courses.
