Objective: To characterize the clinical-epidemiological profile of Brazilians with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and its association with death between 1985 and 2017. Methodology: Observational hospital study, with data from the Hospital Cancer Registry Information System (SisRHC), including individuals ≥39 years old diagnosed with OSCC. Sociodemographic variables, risk factors, tumor location, staging, and death were verified. Descriptive analysis was performed in SPSS v.22.0, with absolute and relative frequencies. The association between death and risk factors was assessed by the chi-square test (p<0.05). Results: A total of 46,656 OSCC cases were recorded, with a higher frequency between 50-59 years old (30.7%), predominantly men (75%), white (48.2%), with elementary school education (66.1%), and residents of the Southeast region (35.4%). Among the risk factors, 68.9% were smokers, 54% consumed alcohol and 59.7% had no family history of cancer. The most common location was the tongue (32.4%), with 42.2% in advanced stage and 27.8% evolving to death. Conclusion: The predominant profile was of white, married men, with low education, smokers and alcohol consumers, with primary lesions on the tongue, generally released in advanced updates, presenting specific mortality rates.
