Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused several global social and health challenges. The aim of this study was to understand SARS hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Brazil based on health determinants. Method: Therefore, a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with public secondary data from SIVEP-Gripe on hospitalizations and deaths from SARS by COVID-19. Results: In total, there were 707.836 SARS hospitalizations due to COVID-19 during the study period. Most were male (55,6%), white (48,3%) and had high school education (31,7%). However, deaths were
higher in vulnerable populations. Although there are no significant differences between regions, it is possible to observe issues related to underreporting and territory. Conclusion: Through this study, it was possible to identify the influence of health determinants in the worsening of cases of COVID-19. It is noteworthy that structural social data need more attention at the time of notification, including making them all mandatory data, since even as essential data there is low filling. Finally, it is pointed out that regional inequalities are present and lack recognition for the definition of public health strategies.
