The right to health is part of the social rights guaranteed by the Brazilian Democratic State governed by the rule of law. For your guarantee, there are a series of services of the Unified Health System covering 100% of the population, including health surveillance detected by the Health Surveillance and Epidemiological Surveillance Systems. In this editorial, we reflect on the importance of SUS and Health Surveillance for complying with the fundamentals of the Brazilian State, as well as we present number 2 of volume 11 of the Revista de Saúde Coletiva of the State University of Feira de Santana. In this issue, in addition to research on COVID-19, research is published on other health problems of importance to the health group, such as Zika, dengue, AIDS, mouth cancer, hypertension, on the work of nurses in the Health Strategy of Family and on the anti-vaccination movement. These surveys contribute by highlighting the advances and challenges of the SUS and by envisioning priorities for management and future research.
