Environmental education: an alternative to improve the quality of life of the community’s neighborhood Novo Horizonte, Feira de Santana, Bahia State, Brazil

This work aims at the evaluation of environmental awareness about the pollution of the Pindoba Lake at Novo Horizonte community, Feira de Santana, Bahia. The study area was characterized by visits in situ, the identification of potential problems what the community believes the most important for their daily life is was made through informal and random interviews with local residents and through empirical observation. Finished the interviews, it was inferred that the Pindoba Lake is highly polluted, barn garbage, sewage and other waste by both local residents and by the UEFS is thrown. It was also gathered that most children do not receive instruction in their schools (the only one). The school should advice them not use the water of the Pindoba Lake and give notions of management and environmental education. Finally, it is clear the necessity of deployment programs for the Environmental Education focused on the formation of a critical thinking, reflective, capable of analyzing the complex relationship between the nature and social reality, to serve the environment allowing the construction of a fair and equal world.
