In the study on the hepatics from Michelin’s Ecological Reserve 138 species were identified, distributed into 40 genera, belonging to 12 families. From these, the best represented was the Lejeuneaceae with 97 species. Among the forest fragments, the Mata de Pacangê contributed to 96 species, from which 24 were exclusive of this fragment. Regarding the bryocenological groups, the corticicolous was the most frequent with 91 species, being that 24 were exclusive, indicating that live tree trunks are the preferential substrate. Most of the species were Neotropical and widely distributed in Brazil, but some species restrictively distributed in 1-3 States were found. The results point to the importance of the Atlantic Forest Fragments at the Michelin’s Reserve as a sanctuary of the floristically important species, as well as to the necessity of floristic inventories as basic tools to establish biodiversity patterns.
