Information about sea urchin Echinometra lucunter (Linnaeus, 1758) (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) from Salvador coast and adjacencies

This paper aimed at presenting a review of studies carried out with Echinometra and to supply qualitative information on Echinometra lucunter from Salvador coast and adjacencies. By means of a bibliographical survey it was evidenced that the most known themes about Echinometra are Systematics and Taxonomy, Biogeografy and Geological History, Ecology and Economic Importance. Qualitative informations, obtained from several researches carried out in the field, both didactic and scientific, show that E. lucunter is very common in rocky substrate, that presents variations in the morphology, occupies different habitats in accordance with its growth stages, and it is appreciated by natives as food.
