Abstract

Records of Order Schizomida in Brazil are scarce, especially in the rainforest environment. In Brazil, it is recorded for the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Amazon region. The objective was to register the first occurrence of Schizomida for the Brazilian Northeast region, in a rainforest environment. The examined animal measures about 3.55 mm; it was deposited at the Museu Nacional da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil. This specimen was captured by wet pitfall traps in the “Parque Estadual de Dois Irmãos” (Recife – Pernambuco), which has an extension of 387.4 ha of dense ombrophilous forest and is isolated in a predominantly urban area. Further sampling of these arachnids in the Brazilian northeast region is suggested in order to better understand its geographic distribution.
