O O ESPAÇO SAGRADO DE MADRINHA ALICE

CARACTERIZAÇÃO HISTÓRICO-GEOGRÁFICA DE UMA COMUNIDADE RELIGIOSA NO SERTÃO DOS MARAKÁ

Resumo

Resumo: O presente texto faz uma caracterização histórico-geográfica da localidade onde estava inserida a comunidade religiosa dirigida por Alice Ferreira de Almeida, conhecida como Madrinha Alice, sacerdotisa de um culto de matrizes afro-brasileiras e indígenas, numa região rural do município de Maracás-BA. Para tanto, na primeira parte, faz um exame da caracterização geral do “sertão” – historicamente associado à interioridade, isolamento e subdesenvolvimento – seguida de uma abordagem mais específica acerca do “Sertão dos Maraká”, território cuja origem está relacionada aos indígenas locais e sua relação com os colonizadores e africanos escravizados, e onde está situado o município em questão. Tal abordagem busca evidenciar a diversidade cultural e étnica locais, que podem ter influenciado na constituição religiosa da comunidade em estudo. Na segunda parte, o texto descreve mais especificamente o espaço de culto da comunidade, situando-a na zona rural do município, descrevendo o terreiro e analisando as relações entre a religião afro-brasileira e o ambiente natural. Com tais discussões, o texto pretende ampliar a compreensão acerca da identidade cultural do Sertão dos Maraká.

Abstract: This text provides a historical-geographical characterization of the locality where the religious community led by Alice Ferreira de Almeida, known as Madrinha Alice, priestess of an Afro-Brazilian and indigenous cult, was located in a rural region of the municipality of Maracás-BA. In the initial section, the text examines the general characterization of the "sertão," a region historically associated with interiority, isolation, and underdevelopment. It then delves into a more specific analysis of the "Sertão dos Maraká," a territory with roots in the local indigenous communities and their interactions with colonizers and enslaved Africans. This is the region where the municipality in question is situated. This approach aims to highlight the local cultural and ethnic diversity, which may have influenced the religious constitution of the community under study. In the second part, the text provides a more detailed description of the community's place of worship, situating it within the rural area of the municipality. It offers a detailed analysis of the terreiro, exploring the relationship between Afro-Brazilian religion and the natural environment. Through these discussions, the text aims to enhance our understanding of the cultural identity of the Sertão dos Maraká.
