FOUCAULT, MAQUIAVEL E A ARTE DE GOVERNAR

O objetivo do artigo é ler Foucault como um filósofo político que se apropriou diretamente, e de forma inovadora, do cânone da filosofia política. O foco está na leitura que Foucault faz de O príncipe, de Maquiavel, nas aulas de Segurança, território, população. O objetivo provocativo de Foucault é virar de cabeça para baixo a interpretação comumente aceita de Maquiavel. Quando lemos Maquiavel por meio do quadro conceitual da governamentalidade, somos forçados a repensar a visão comumente aceita de que ele é o fundador da filosofia política moderna. Em contrapartida, Foucault mostra que Maquiavel pertence firmemente à era pré-moderna. É justamente em contraste com o pensamento de Maquiavel que algumas das características mais marcantes do pensamento político moderno podem ser evidenciadas. O artigo conclui avaliando a abordagem de Foucault à história da filosofia como uma forma distinta de contextualismo
