The article aims to recover the origin of the concept of Kitsch and its evolution over time through the articulation of Karpfen (2017), Benjamin (1985), Greenberg (1986), Sontag (1964), Moles (2012), Eco (1998), Kulka (2011) and Morin (2015). It seeks to understand the expansion of the concept in Brazil, presenting the dialogue between Rosenfeld (1987), Campos (1969), Pignatari (2002) and Souza (2019), highlighting the points of contact with the European and American perspective, which are many, and the Brazilian singularities debated by these authors, which are few. The conclusion is that there is a predominant understanding of kitsch from its original European perspective and that advances are indicated in the understanding of the contribution of kitsch to the expansion of repertoires (Pignatari, 2002 and Campos, 1969) and as a certain response to the struggles of social classes, in Souza (2019). These considerations point to the need to broaden and deepen the understanding of kitsch in Brazil, both because of the exuberance of the relationships we have with material culture and the diversity of tastes of a large population in a successive process of immigration, and because of the new dynamics imposed by today's society in the context of the digital environment and algorithmic logics.
