A UTOPIA E O TUPI
BRASIL COMO FATO ESTÉTICO

The article presents “Brazil” as an aesthetic phenomenon. First, it shows how the term “Brazil” – with some variations – referred to a paradisiacal place, a utopia, since the 6th century, in numerous legends and myths. There was a name of an imaginary topos in search of an application. Then, during the era of great navigations in the 16th century, we will see the enchantment provoked by the nature of the new lands – including human nature – on the first Europeans who arrived there, and, once again, the establishment of connections between Brazil and utopia. Finally, we will present the aesthetic reappropriation of the link between the Brazil and the utopias carried out by Oswald de Andrade.
