Abstract

This paper analyzes Brazilian modernism in its aesthetic context, drawing on two essays by Benedito Nunes: "Oswald Canibal" (1979) and "Antropofagia ao alcance de todos" (1990). Although centered on the work of Oswald de Andrade, these texts allow us to explore how Nunes interprets the modernist movement from a philosophical-artistic perspective. We identify that primitivismo - a recurring theme of the avant-garde in the early 20th century -, along with the metaphor of cannibalism, enabled, through the aesthetic experience of our artists, the configuration of a modern way of being.
