This article offers a critical reading of Western colonial humanism based on premises found in the texts "Hellenic Humanism" and "Semitic Humanism" by liberation philosopher Enrique Dussel. It examines aspects such as the critique of anthropological and ethical dualism, the disregard for the body and empirical experience, the abstract concept of the common good, the ahistorical understanding of one's situated existence, materiality, and self-esteem. Furthermore, it explores objectification and instrumentalization as integral parts of a humanism that fails to see beyond unquestionable dogma. From this perspective, it presents ideas within utilitarianism and liberalism as part of the instrumental ethics of the economic system that has naturalized its social order, excluding a large part of humanity. Subsequently, it critiques the objectification of life, as seen through Marx's lens, through the regulation of death. Finally, Dussel's arguments contribute to denaturalizing the Western colonial humanism that has both regulated and harmed aspects of life in Latin America/Abya Yala.
