FOUCAULTIAN HERITAGE: THE COURAGE OF TRUTH

In his last Course at the Collège de France, between Jan. and sea. 1984, Michel Foucault pronounces The Courage of Truth. In a way, this closes an important trilogy formed by the Hermeneutics of the Subject, followed by the Government of the Self and the Others. Once again the issue of governmentalization joined the care of the self in telling the truth about oneself to configure a long philosophical history that originates in the pre-Socratics and is concluded in the first centuries of this era, especially from the confrontation between cynical and Christian practices. Through the recovery of this trajectory, with emphasis on this last Course, this article celebrates the contributions of one of the most prestigious contemporary philosophers, especially to Ethics, so dear and fundamental to the practice and teaching practices of today.
