Orthophytum amoenum is a rupicolous species, endemic of Chapada Diamantina, Bahia. Its protologue presents an incomplete description and herbarium collections are generally scarce or poorly representative, making unclear the identity of that species. In search of recognition of that species, field trips were made in localities of their occurrence, as well as the examination of the material-type deposited in the Herbarium of the Botanical Museum in Berlin (B). After detailed study of populations of this species in the field in which it was observed the wide variability of morphological species, and examination of holotype of the species, it was possible to highlight the true identity of O. amoenum, with detailed description and illustration, as well as new data of their geographical distribution.
