Abstract

Ecological studies based on herpetofauna in the Atlantic Forest are of great interest, taking into account the population decrease of amphibians and reptiles, in addition to the increasing estimative of deforestation of this biome. In order to adding information about herpetofauna from study area, we aimed at presenting a preliminary list of litter amphibians and reptiles from Reserva Ecológica da Michelin, including data on species abundance and spatial distribution. Pitfall-traps were used to collect the species throughout March, May and July 2007. Two species were dominant: Rhinella hoogmoedi and Coleodactylus meridionalis. Anuran species richness tended fast increasing rather than snakes, lizards and amphisbaenians. Pattern of spatial distribution revealed few variations related to the total number of species, and to the number of species by taxonomic group, suggesting similarity of factors driving species assemblages in the forest floor.
