Abstract

By the first time the occurrence of a gynandromorph of Melipona mondury, collected together with normal males and females, is reported. The specimen presented bilateral asymmetry, with the right half of its head having male characters and the left half having female characters; the mesosoma presents male characters verified mostly by the shape of the mid basitarsi and the post tibia and basitarsi. Although the metasoma only presents male characters, it has a line dividing the terga in the middle, being the right half dark brown like the females, and the left half yellowish like the males.
