Metamorfoses intermidiáticas da literatura de cordel: das urdiduras do imaginário popular às ressignificações em narrativas contemporâneas

Abstract

Conceived by voices from the oral tradition, cordel literature is an expression of northeastern popular culture, presenting itself as a linguistic-literary manifestation that brings about the convergence of symbols of different cultures with symbols of the daily experience of the people of the region. In view of this, the study turns to the intertextual, hybrid and cultural plasticity character (AUTHOR, 2017) that crosses intermedial borders and marks a fruitful place to scrutinize phenomena of the popular imagination in cordel literature. Based on exploratory, descriptive, and bibliographical research, it investigates: i) how the cordel leaflets, from the multimodal arrangement of the cover images to the narrative construction, become language objects of a social practice that produces and circulates effects of meaning by linking humanity to the historical and cultural phenomena of the world, and ii) how the phenomena of metamorphosis/plasticity are architected around this popular art. As a case study, the cordel O Romance do Pavão Misterioso, a poetic narrative by José Camelo de Melo Rezende (1885-1964), is taken as a case study. Therefore, the study dialogues with theoretical assumptions that transit through cultural studies and oral tradition (ZUMTHOR, 1993; 2000; 2005), through dialogic and interart practices (BAKHTIN, 2016; CLÜVER, 2007; RAJEWSKI, 2012), through the culture of cordel leaflets, considering an Anthropological Semiotics approach (AUTHOR, 2011), from a symbolic-anthropological bias (DURAND, 2002; JUNG, 2014; 2016) that reconciles the imaginary and the symbols in the processes of textual meaning. Through the analysis carried out, the research shows that cordel literature manifests itself as a unique apparatus of movement and maintenance of the voices and scriptures of the imaginary of the culture it represents (AUTHOR, 2011). In addition, it grants the status of cultural value to a diversity of artistic productions, as it opens space for the assimilation/appropriation/incorporation of other creations, enabling its continuity and performance/updating as an important social and media practice of the Brazilian people.
