Abstract

Based on the plot of the play "Fuenteovejuna," written in the 17th century by the Spaniard Lope de Vega, we will highlight the revolutionary attitude of this author who brought to literature and the stage, for the first time, universal and timeless ideas, such as the right of a people to cherish their honor and be treated with respect and dignity. The objective is to analyze the process of collectivization of the town of Fuenteovejuna, highlighting the defense strategies used by the townspeople, such as unbreakable silence and their own culture in response to government oppression. To ground the relationship between the spectator, the author, and their creation, we draw on the contributions of theorists Jiménez, Monteiro, and Candido. And for a better understanding of the collectivity in Fuenteovejuna, we bring in the thinking of Kirschner, Ilbáñez, and Medina. However, the focus of the study will be the personification of the population of Fuenteovejuna as a collective character.
