Palmares de Zumbi (2019): narrativa híbrida de história e ficção – por uma ressignificação do passado de luta pela liberdade

Abstract

The present work proposes an analysis of the juvenile narrative Palmares de Zumbi (2019), by Leonardo Chalub, as a hybrid literary production of history and fiction aimed at the re-signification of the past through the ways of literary art, adapting to the characteristics of the so-called contemporary historical novel by mediation. This proposal aims to reveal, taking the context of enslavement as a cutout, how youth literature, especially contemporary production, adds representation to marginalized classes, often erased from official historical records and treated pejoratively as minorities. In this process of literary reading, hybrid juvenile works focused on the context of the Quilombo do Palmares stand out, more specifically the struggle for freedom, in order to highlight figures made invisible by traditional historiography, focusing on ex(centric) voices, from a perspective “view from below” (SHARPE, 1992). We rely, in this analysis, on theorists who problematize the need for decolonization of thought through decoloniality (COLAÇO, 2012), Fleck (2017), Sharpe (1992). The results of this study demonstrate that many contemporary youth fictional narratives corroborate reflections on the non-neutrality of discourses, which circulate and express the power game in relation to European hegemony, colonization and the slave system, pointed out by Fleck (2017) as inherent in the contemporary historical novel of mediation. Such elements can, therefore, point to ways of decolonization in the formation of readers in Basic Education.
