Abstract

This article aims to carry out a historical-philosophical analysis of Artificial Intelligence as a scientific achievement by reconstructing its conceptual conditions of possibility and questioning its foundations in light of a dialogical ontology of language. It investigates the emergence of AI through a genealogy of the formalization of language, situating the computational paradigm within the broader modern process of the mathematization of nature. The paper argues that conceiving language as a system manipulable by formal rules constitutes a historical condition for AI. In dialogue with Turing’s operational redefinition of intelligence, it contends that reducing language to formal and statistical structures is insufficient to account for meaning. Drawing on Bakhtin’s notion of the utterance, it shows that meaning is realized in the responsive and situated event of enunciation, inseparable from alterity, historicity, and responsibility—dimensions that exceed computational formalization. The article concludes that AI processes language at the level of structural performance but does not participate in the ethical and historical event that constitutes saying as a responsible act.
