Relações translíngue entre o espanhol e o mapudungun na paisagem linguística do estallido social chileno (2019-2020)

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to raise questions, from a perspective of glottopolitics, by addressing the tense relationships established between the national language and minority languages ​​within the historical process of nation-state consolidation (ANDERSON, 2008). This discussion highlights the intersection of translingual practices and counterpedagogical gestures. To this end, drawing on the notion of linguistic landscape (LAUNDRY & BOURHIS, 1997), we will analyze linguistic transitions between Spanish, as a national language, and Mapudungun (a Mapuche language), as a minority language, triggered by the Chilean social outbreak (2019-2020) in Santiago. Our theoretical-methodological framework is grounded in discourse analysis of Pecheutian origin. In this sense, our problem arises from the following question: how does the social outbreak impact the Chilean linguistic landscape? In general terms, our analysis reinforces that the situation of contact between Spanish and Mapudungun captured in the linguistic landscape related to the social outbreak highlights an inherently fluid dynamic that, as a counter-hegemonic gesture, gives rise to the propagation of new linguistic policies, inviting changes in the status quo concerning the historical conflictual relations established between the Chilean State and the Mapuche.
