Aspectos sociolinguísticos presentes no conto “A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga” de Guimarães Rosa: Reflexões e possibilidades de uso em sala de aula

Abstract

Abstract: This study analyzes the sociolinguistic aspects present in the short story "A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga," written by Guimarães Rosa. The discussion is based primarily on the studies of Bortoni-Ricardo (2004; 2021) and Coelho et al. (2015). It adopts a qualitative and interpretative methodological approach, following the parameters of Creswell (2021), from the perspective of Variationist Sociolinguistics. Initially, the study observes that the narrator's speech and that of the characters belong to different linguistic continua. Even within the characters' speech, there are changes according to their social roles. For example, there is the constant use of imperative verbs by the characters Nhô Augusto and Major Consilva, representatives of figures of political and economic power. The narrative also presents the following linguistic variations: syncope, "prothesis of the a" and metathesis. The study concludes that the short story establishes connections between literature and sociolinguistics, offering rich possibilities for teaching Portuguese. The research is justified by fostering reflection and enabling the identification of sociolinguistic aspects applicable to literature teaching.
