Abstract

Taking as its main prerogatives the studies of Pierre Bourdieu (1996, 2007) on the symbolic goods market and Linda Hutcheon (2013) on the theory of adaptation, anchored in other authors, this paper focuses on the adaptation of Alice Munro's short story Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage (2013) for the film Hateship Loveship (2014). The main objective is to analyze the story in question with the changes and additions made in the adaptation. This made it possible to perceive the role that the main character plays in the plot, with a feminine role that pre-disposes her to the place of woman as mother and housewife, as well as to ascertain the influence that an award has on the adaptation of a work, moving a literary market that exceeds itself in this area and advances to other media.
