Abstract

This article presents and discusses the methodological procedures adopted in the construction of a diachronic corpus of personal letters from Alagoas, developed within the scope of a historical sociolinguistic study. The research focused on the analysis of pronominal variation between tu and você in subject position, based on documents produced between the 1910s and 2000s. The methodological path included the careful selection of sources, semi-diplomatic transcription, categorization of linguistic and extralinguistic variables, and the application of statistical models. Additionally, the article addresses the challenges encountered during corpus organization and highlights the analytical possibilities provided by such material. The study proposes a methodological framework for the constitution of historical corpora that can be replicated in similar investigations, contributing to the empirical and interpretative advancement of Historical Sociolinguistics.
